It’s been a bit since Jacob’s Dilemma was released in the Spring and it’s always a thrill when someone takes the time to spread the word. Selected by CBC books as one of 15 titles for intermediate – aged and YA audiences to read in the summer of 2023. ‘Greer is a maritimer with a gift for capturing the thought process of a yound adolescent male which, as a former boys school teacher, I can testiy will sometimes lead to strange decision – making. The themes this book address  changing/ communities/ schools, family dysfunction, substance abuse, grief and longing – are common problems for middle schoolers pretty much everywhere.

Author Melanie Mosher describes it as a heartfelt tale of a young boy who has to make decisions well beyond his years. The road that Jacob travels is rough and winding, but I managed to include unforgettable characters and moments of laugh-out-loud humor to balance the emotional weight of the story. I’m delighted that readers will experience a true sense of place in rural Nova Scotia through the pages of my book.

Author Chad Lucas’s review brings us back to the vividly rendered Newport Landing, where we meet deeply human characters with all their flaws, foibles, and grief. He praises Jacob, a big-hearted boy navigating the turbulent tides of adolescence and new family dynamics, as a character that readers will root for. I’m glad that “Jacob’s Dilemma” resonates as a moving, bittersweet coming-of-age story about the sorrows and joys of finding the way home.

Author Laura Best captures the essence of the story when she describes it as a journey of discovery with young Jacob in his search for acceptance and a mother’s love. I’m thrilled that readers will be captivated by the engaging story and the fast-paced narrative that takes Jacob on an intricate web of deceit. As he struggles to do the right thing, he eventually learns that the right choice isn’t always the easy one.
